A piece from the Memorial Day performance of the Charlottesville Gamelan.Did you know there is a gamelan in Charlottesville? Do you know what a gamelan is? It is an orchestra of gongs and xylophones from Indonesia. I came across this last Memorial Day. They performed at The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative off of Avon Street by Spudnuts. If you play the scale of F, Ab, Bb, Db, and Eb you can approximate the sounds of this particular gamelan. The Charlottesville Gamelan is directed by Cindy Benton-Groner, who brought back the instruments from Indonesia. For more information on gamelans, check out www.gamelan.org
